History Paintings & Triptychs
My works are often large and employ conventions from traditional history painting. Often they employ biblical text as well and seek their mythic and symbolic power. The following scenes depict a significant moment and often use historical models, but mix the imagery so that past and present co-mingle. Humor as also an aspect of my work using obviously contemporary characters next to archaic ones. The satire is cut by a strong desire to universalize and contemporize the scene in question.
